I have just recently discovered Horsham Lake but I will definitely be returning. The lake was of medium size with a lovely shape to it which I found deceiving as I thought I had seen the whole lake until I turned a corner only to see more of it! It is set in a rural location and unlike many other lakes there is very minimal to zero road noise, it is beautiful and peaceful. At the time we went there was a good supply of ducks swimming around with their ducklings, I know some people find this annoying but I feel it adds to the whole fishing experience, being in and around nature is a big part of why I am so ‘hooked’ on fishing!

It appears to be quite a busy lake but we found a nice swim between two trees and set up for the day. We had we started with one Carp Rod out using my Fiancés favoured pineapple boilies which always seem to go down very well with carp, not happy with one a little later we put another Carp Rod out with more pineapple boilies. I was quite content with my float rod and sweet corn. I did not realise though what a busy day would be ahead of us, I was looking forward to relaxing and reading my book, as let’s face it, waiting is the game when it comes to fishing, normally.

This lake is full to the brim with fish, it was unbelievable. The sweet corn had barely touched the surface when BANG I was in, straight away and not only that they fought like professional boxers, heavy weights at that, even the Rudd!! My Fiancé soon got his float rod out as well, seeing how I was the first one to catch and I’m a girl, not that he’s competitive! We were getting fish at the same time and the biggest I caught of between 5-6 pounds were caught from right in front of me! I was having a great time and didn’t stop once, even though the sun was burning my shoulders, and my legs and my arm! I was a woman possessed.

Of course my partner wanted to catch a bigger fish, but not being concerned with size I was in my element! I caught several golden Rudd which I had never done before and was amazed at how perfectly beautiful they were, we also caught four tench, and several roach, but the majority of the fish were common carp with just a handful of mirrors.

If you are looking for a lake with huge specimen fish then this isn’t the lake for you as the largest of the carp get to around 24lb, but if like me you want to go for a good day’s fishing then this is definitely the place for you. I would also highly recommend Horsham lake in Upchurch to take the children as they are in with such a good chance of catching. But it is also a nice place just to get away from the hustle and bustle. Now one of my favourite lake for carp fishing in kent.
